On the right chain stay of the Miyata LT1000 touring frame (which has been sent off to Connecticut) there is this little doo-hicky braze on. What is this for? I’m assuming it has something to do with side of the road maintenance that might be more commonly done while on an extended tour, but what? If you know, please share it with me.Just above it is this little braze on which I’m assuming is for holding your chain up while doing maintenance. Am I wrong in thinking that’s what this little ditty is for? I’ve got one of these on my LHT, so I guess it would be a good idea to know exactly what it’s for.

Both of them? I thought that is what the little stubby thing is but is that what that loop is too? If so, how do you use it? Thanks for entertaining my curiosity.

#2 Definitely a chain hanger. It holds the chain while the wheel is out.
it seems like i remember seeing pictures before of a sort of chainstay protector that is sort of like a strap that is pulled tight over the top of the chain stay with one end being inside a loop like you have shown. i tried to do a quick search and see if i could find one, but havent found anything, so maybe i just imagined such a contraption...

Hey brendan, thanks for the link. That does certainly look like it could be the use. Weird thing though, this frame has only one of those loops. Very weird.
