Delicious

I decided to taste my first beer with my lunch this afternoon. This stuff tastes great! I was really worried that I would be pouring out every beer that I bottled and that it would all be a waste. That's what happened when I tried to make wine. Not at all the case with my first beer making attempt.
It has a warm initial taste, less zing than a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and finishes with a slightly nutty flavor. Man I like this beer. I'm stoked that it worked out. This batch is only the beginning. The beginning of something great. Cheers.

Looking forward to it

I've got something at home I'm looking for to returning to. My first batch of bottled beer. I missed the other stages of the process on this blog, but here is a picture of the sterilized bottles waiting to serve their higher purpose. The beer is bottled and settling. When I get back, it should be ready for it's first tasting.

I've been sampling some great brews while down south here in Florida, and I'm interested to see what mine will taste like. While I'm really not expecting much, I hope it's at least drinkable.

Marathon is Done

Well, this was a little weekend that's been haunting me for some time. 1/2 Marathon yesterday, full marathon today. Disney Worlds Marathon Weekend Goofy race and a half challenge. The reason for the haunting? I didn't train. In the past 2 years, I've ran less than 100 miles. Based on a training plan I've done for my previous 3 marathons, I should be racking over 100 miles in less than 2 weeks. In the past 6 weeks I've ran 14 miles. I was incredibly under prepared. I thought I might not even make it. Odd thing, this was the easiest marathon I've ever done. I would attribute it mostly with my incredibly slow pace.

My time for the half: 2:04
Marathon Time: 5:04
Not fast, but not bad for someone who didn't train. I am glad that this is over with though.
When you do the goofy, you get the Donald medal for the half, Micky medal for the full, and the goofy medal for doing them one after another. That was the best part of it. Walking around the cool down area with both medals on today.
It sure feels good when you stop running.

1/2 Marathon Tomorrow

Does drinking copious amounts of beer quantify as carbo-loading??? Didn't think so.

Making his Daddy Proud

First and foremost, my oldest is having fun. He's also getting pretty good at skiing. Super G Superstar On the way back up

Back in touch.....for a short while

I've been without Internet for over 6 days! 6 days! Wow a lot happens in that time. My google reader is at 265 unread posts, I've got face book messages and emails to plug through, and I've got a bunch of blog posts I've been doing on One Note while I was gone that I need to get up here. Unfortunately, I've also got a whack of work to catch up on and get ahead of before my Florida vacation. So, I don't think I'll get too much on here for another while.

Quick recap on Fernie: The snow was incredible! They received over a foot while I was skiing, and finding 2-3 feet of powder was possible on every single run! I hadn't been skiing for 14 years (snow boarding was last done about 7 years ago) and by noon I was right back into the swing of things. I was finally skiing noting but the black diamonds and a few double black diamonds thrown in for fun. Had some really good wipe outs, nothing painful, but just while on slope so steep that when you fell, you were air born for about 10 feet before landing in the powder and sliding for another 50ft, all while creating small avalanches.

My wife was sick, and they boys were playing with Grandpa in the pool, so I was skiing solo for the day. Lift lines were empty, temperature was -5C, and beautiful snow. For my first day back on the skis, I don't think I could have picked a better one.

The rest of the time, we sat around, went swimming several times each day, watched TV and basically just hung out in the snowed in condo. What a great several days!
