Saw Will's LHT over at the
Cyclofriend's Current classics gallery. “
62cm Surly Long Haul Trucker (sans hideous Surly graphics)” is Wills description. I will say that it takes much more of a classic look when the decals are removed. I’m inching closer to the de-branded LHT all the time. Still, proceeding with caution though.
On the other hand, on the
Surly 1X1, I think the decals are quite fitting. Silly
Surly.

Hi, My name is Brian, and I live in Strathmore. I am also a Huge Bike guy. I have riden almost everyday to work and back for the past 3 years. (Ice can sure be fun, eh?) I also love to ride for fun. I have been reading your blog and was wondering if you could tell me any really good long trails around here. Also, if you are ever around the walmart, I would like to meet you. (I have a job there) I think your photo rock.
Hey Brian,
Great to hear from you! I think I’ve seen your bike at Walmart. Good on ya for riding so much! And thanks for the nice words about the blog. I know a few decent trials, but there aren’t too many around Strathmore. Have you done the eagle lake route? That one isn’t technical at all (you could ride it with kids or on a skinny tired road bike) but it is nice. I might be moving back into Strathmore in the next few months, and we could hook up for some rides. I’ve also thought about getting a riding club going in Strathmore. I think there are enough folks around that ride that we could do something. You can email me at jeromebike AT gmail DOT com. Cheers.
Jerome, I stumbled onto your blog while trying to find a photo of an LHT without the decals. It's funny you and I are in the same boat. We have almost the same set up. See mine here:

I decided to help us both out and photshop the decals off your ride to see roughly what it would look like.
Here you go, not too bad... :)

Hey Cycle Jerk. Thanks for tweaking that. I haven't quite removed mine yet. I'm almost thinking of leaving them, just because Surley is associated with some pretty cool cycling mayham. I think once I get my bike "classiced up" with steel fenders, and all the modern looking parts off (less drive train) I might go ahead and use my credit card to scrape the decals. -My FFF decal was bunk when I recieved the bike and they ordered a new one for me. I tried a credit card, and it's the magic ticket, works great.
Oddly enough, I was checking out your blog for the first time yesterday. I forget how I stumbled upon it, but I had even read your LHT post. Just yesterday...weird.
Let me know if you up and decided to de-decal your trucker.
Oh, wait, did you post to the CC & LHT Google group? that might be how I came across your blog! Keep it up btw. Cheers.
Wow, small world. I guess that means I'm covering the bases. I am still on the fence about the decals as well. It will happen out of boredom or after I get a brass bell from Velo Orange.
