My Long Haul Trucker

Quite possibly the best bike I've ever owned. There just something about the way it keeps on rolling. Smooth, but tough. Rugged and yet refined. The fit getting closer and closer to perfect. Ah, what a bike.

I was noticing Surly speced the 56cm and bigger LHT with 700c wheels, and 54 and smaller LHTs with 26 inch wheels. Why do you suppose that is? I can understand on a really small frame...

I have an early 90's Specialized Expedition in the garage that needs some racks and luggage. Rides pretty good!

I think it is to keep a certain aspect of their touring geometry "correct". From what I've learned, they feel that certain parts of the geometry are compromised when you get to using a large wheel on a small frame. I know there are a lot of people out there who wished you could get a LHT in the larger sizes with the 26" wheel, allowing a better world-wide bike in larger sizes as 700s can be hard to find in some parts. That's what I've heard anyway, I could be blowing smoke too. Who knows?

BTW - You should get one!!!!!

Cheers.

I was just thinking today about how much I love my LHT, too. I was riding full-tilt at nearly 40 mph down a long hill, and the LHT just seems to hunker down and ease along without any uncertainty, wobble, flutter... I've gong offroad and no probs at all, either. A great bike. Glad you are enjoying yours!

I gotta agree. I have several (several..) and the LHT may be the *the* must have of the bunch. Since my commute started again (teacher), I haven't been on another
