Back to the Lazy Days of Summer

Our first Sunday here in Rockyford and what a great one. A/C cranken inside the house and 30 C (86F outside) and a great day for a lazy cruise with my boys. My wife was planting her Zucini and I figured that I'd tour this little town with my boys. Load them into the Charriot, hook up the Rockabilly Boogy and of we go. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Lazily riding around town, checking out the tractors, old brick buildings, playgrounds and the rest that goes with a small priarie town. I didn't bring my camera with me, this one was for my boys. Where they wanted to go, we went. Rides like this bring a smile to my face and a tan to the skin. Can't beat em.

That bike is cool! I'd be hard-pressed to get home on it around here, but I have always wanted the three-speed version of Felt's Red Baron as my cruiser (http://www.feltracing.com/05/05_cruiser/2005_baron.html.)

Hey Thanks Smudge. I was looking at a felt when I bought this one. I was working in San Diego when I first got cranked on these cruiser style bikes. They've been riding them down there with surf boards hanging off the side for a long time now, and when I bought this one several years ago, Electra were about the only cruiser bikes that I could find in Calgary. Felts MP almost looks utilitarian and like it might be good for super short commutes. Truth is, the Rockabilly doesn't get riden enough. Oh well, still can't have too many bikes! Cheers.

The Electra does look like fun. I didn't even realize Felt made Cruiser bikes. I like the looks of the 1903. I'd like to have a cruiser. But, there is a thing as too many bikes when you don't have a garage and have limited storage space. If I could just convince my wife to let me keep a couple of bikes in the dining room, then I could have my Cruiser. I guess the Pugsley will have to be my Cruiser for now.

Hey Doug, I've tried to convince my good wife of the same thing. Especially if you get a nice looking cruiser, all clean and everything. Even hang it from the vaulted ceilings like they do in those chic restaurants. Didn't work. Maybe if you build a nice oak podium and install some mood light shining up on it. Man, what a mood you could set with a bike like that in the dinning room! I'm still trying to figure out why women don't realize the beauty that they are missing out on. Oh well. It's worth a try!

Yeah, I noticed the MP from Felt after I left my comment. What would be really cool would be the Canvas: http://www.feltracing.com/products/product.asp?catid=18,24,1439&pid=8564.

An unpainted cruiser frameset to custom-finish any way you want. How about pairing it up with an Xtracycle and a Rohloff hub? Yeah! Oh boy, I might not be able to wait for the Big Dummy to be available...

Smudgemo, I saw that one too! are you going to buy it! I think that you need to! You could totally post progress of the build like Doug is doing! I've never heard of the Rohloff hub. I'm goona google it a learn something today! Cheers.

I better not right now. I have no extra time to be taking on that kind of project, but I'd hate to lose out on getting one for a future project. My birthday is in November, maybe I'll float a hint and leave it on the shelf. Stay seated when you google Rohloff. The hub and shifter is around $1,400 US, but it is supposed to be nearly bomb-proof. I really want to build the Big Dummy because #2 will be old enough by then to ride in the kids seat, I think. I'm going to rig the back with two seats for them. My neighbor gave me one that will work well for #1 now that she is older. That's the project I really can't wait to get started.
