Not installed yet, but they showed up in the mail today. While I know they're not the greatest, they were a deal for only $15 on eBay. It'll give me a nice chance to ride the fixie with a front brake and see what it's like.
I'll also change gearing down a bit and install some 42 width tires with tread I've got kicking around the garage. Call it the winter conversion.

Only a very few skillful folks can truly ride their fixed gear bikes without brakes. The rest of us need brakes. That's OK, because your knees will thank you 20 years from now.
You're right.
I consider myself a very skillful fixie rider, as long as I don't have to stop and there's no one else on the road.
In a recent spell of commuting in Fresno, I realized how hard urban riding on a fixed gear is.
Brakes will be nice for gravel and snow too.
Cheers.
My front brake was very appreciated on my fixie. And nice LHT! I'm in the Canadian Rockies over winter, so mine won't be getting any miles on it any time soon - I have an excellent expedition planned for it next summer though!
