I think the problem is most of us are really poor at eloquently capturing the spirit of the ride and communicating it to others. So we instead focus on numbers like speed and time and distance because everyone gets that easily.
That's also why sharing a nice ride with friends or family is so great...you don't have to talk about how amazing it was since you were all there in that same moment.
