Man I've had bad luck with these things lately. Anyone know of any decent back up for photo files? My second one was a 500 GB and didn't even last a month. At least our IT guys were able to work their magic and I haven't lost everything yet....

I have a Lacie, which is about 5 years old now and doing great. Newer is the Cavalry, which is a mirrored RAID (500gb on each disk). Works great, it is about a year old.
If you want to get away from hard drives and are willing to pay yearly fee, you might want to look at something like smugmug. You can upload photos, of course, but you can also order backups of all your files.
I'd go for a Seagate Free Agent or a Western Digital My book or My passport. Pretty reliable Hard drive manufacturers.
i've actually been using the Carbonite online backup service for quite a while, and although i haven't had to go recover everything, it keeps files around 30 days after i delete them. I have all my pictures and music backed up there, and i'm not sure what it would entail to get all those hundreds of GBs back to me, I feel pretty safe. my house can burn down and i lose little to no data. it's damn cheap too.
Hey, thanks for the great advice everyone. Now, researach.....Cheers.
